How often do you go shopping? Are you an impulse buyer? Do you shop alone?
There are certain questions that are just off-limits; for instance, a wise man once told me, you never ask a woman her age or her original hair color. (Okay, it was a wise woman.) Now I’d add to that list this one: Never ask a woman about her shopping habits.
Though in these days of the Clintonian sentence parsing, ecommerce 24/7 and easy returns, it’s quite easy to get out of those sorts of questions. “Oh, I don’t go shopping everyday” sounds reasonable but really just means “I don’t leave my house and physically go shopping somewhere every single day, but I do obsess over ebay five hours a day.” See where I’m going with that? Oh the horror, the horror! I finally got around to reading the Thursday Styles section of the Times, and buried amidst the coverage of the couture and stories about manbags and silicone injections was a mere sliver of a column about Saturday’s fire at the Prada boutique in Soho.
The first two paragraphs talk about the cutting-edge Rem Koolhaas design, the $900,000 elevator, the store’s tourist-destination status. And then we read about the six injured firemen and Bobbi Brown’s spared lipstick. Not to seem insensitive, but talk about burying the lead! The first mention of the damaged spring merchandise came a full 3 1/2 column inches into the story. Read the rest of this entry »
I’m on a roll. First I manage to resist buying shoes that my friend spotted first. Now I’ve gone above and beyond. In the middle of some power shopping during the pre-sell for Last Call at Neiman’s — let’s just say we hit two stores in New Jersey and managed to spend all the daylight hours of a beautiful spring-like day either in a mall or in a car — I did a good deed. As I was grabbing here, there, everywhere, I saw a shoe that a friend of mine had mentioned to me at brunch a few weeks before: She’d described it as the holy grail of Louboutins, a “dragon shoe” of exquisite proportions, and she’d bemoaned the fact that she had passed on buying them when she saw them in the fall. Surely, she said, they were long gone. Read the rest of this entry »
I’ve never been able to wear white shoes. Even when I was a kid, and other girls wore nice shiny patent white mary janes with little frilly socks, I refused to let my mom put them on my feet. I’m not certain why I had such a visceral response to white shoes even then. Maybe it was a fear of scuffs, or mud. Maybe it was always after Labor Day.
In any case, when I got a little older, they became associated with nurses’ shoes, which I gathered were designed for women who were on their feet all day and thus were far too sensible. Read the rest of this entry »
Orla Kiely Flower Box Print Shoulder Bag in OliveOh, I was so happy to see some new bags on Orla Kiely’s site, and I was even more happy to see this beauty! It looks so sweet I could easily mistake it for a candy! Mmmm… See how much I like it? I liked pretty much every Orla Kiely bag I’ve seen, they all look chic and unique. I like some of them more than the others, but they are all special in their own way. I always liked having something noone else had, or at least being one of the first people to get it (I’m not talking just the “IT” stuff here, it applies to anything I like) – I enjoy being ahead
It’s not like I will be rubbing that into people’s noses, it is just something that makes me happy. Read the rest of this entry »
Patent has definitely made it’s way into the SS08 collections. I am still not sure whether I like that or not, but way to go patent!!
As you can see, I am posting about a Prada bag yet again, and I am starting to feel silly since I haven’t written as many posts about Prada in the short life of Bagddicted as I have in the past 20 days. Anyway, let’s leave my Prada obsession aside and talk about the Degrade clutch.
I have to admit, I haven’t fallen in love with this one, reason being the patent leather which I still cannot make my mind over since this is a SS bag and patent works best for AW. I do like the gradient effect that makes these bright pink and tourquoise leather bags look really refreshing, especially the tourquoise one, reminiscent of hot summer days and the heavenly sensations of refreshment when you dive into the sea. Ahh, I can’t wait for summer (I really, really need to stop daydreaming
). The cream topstiching blends in great, giving the clutch a special touch. Read the rest of this entry »
